This is a brief tutorial on how to use Microsoft Movie Maker to edit your home videos from long and sometimes boring video clips to an exciting home movie.
Look at the pane on the left side of the screen titled “Movie Tasks.” Under that title you will see three sections: “Capture Video”, “Edit Movie” and “Finish Movie.”
To get started, click on the “Import Video” button. This is where you can browse for and choose the desired video clip. Once you find the video clip you want, click the import button. Any imported videos will be in the section labeled “Collections”. To add a video clip into the storyboard, simply click on the video clip and drag it down into the storyboard at the bottom of the screen. To play a clip, click on it in the storyboard and press the play button on the preview monitor. This is also where you can split your clip and/or take a still picture of the specific frame.
Once your clips are in order, you can really make your movie come to life by adding effects and transitions. To add effects click on the “View Video Effects” button. The effects will appear in the middle screen. You can preview an effect in the preview monitor simply by clicking on it. To add an effect to your video clip, just click on and drag that effect onto the specific video clip in your storyboard. You can add transitions in pretty much the same way; however, when you drag the transition into your storyboard, you will place it between the video clips rather than on the video clips.
When you have completed your editing, click the “Finish Movie” button and follow the step-by-step instructions.
